New Generation Scholars (NGS) Program, founded in 2007, is a youth development initiative that uses Black diasporic studies, political education, and radical engagement to help young people better understand themselves and their communities. Since its founding, NGS has supported over 387 youth in traveling abroad and partnered with more than 50 cultural workers, activists, artists, and educators. Operating with the intention of shifting westernized conditioning to liberate our minds and chart a radical, unified path for learning, NGS increases access to knowledge through FREE hybrid programs for all ages that connect self-understanding to ancestral wisdom and restore power within our communities.
What began as a leadership and study abroad program has since grown into a network of initiatives including the global Intergenerational Institute, the Youth Restorative Justice Circle Work Collective, the Black Femme Freedom School, and the Young Artist Archival Fellowship all designed to nurture intellectual growth, creative expression, and community resilience. Together, these programs connect Baltimore youth to global communities while honoring Black traditions of learning, healing, and freedom-making.
